Filmmaker and actress Renu Desai has spoken out about facing ongoing online abuse and being persistently viewed only as the former spouse of Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

Career And Public Life

Desai stated on a recent podcast appearance that public perception largely ignores her life and work before and after her marriage. She pointed out that her legal separation from Kalyan took place in 2012, yet online critics continue to send vicious messages attacking her value and personal choices. She highlighted her professional accomplishments since the separation, which include producing a successful Marathi film, writing and directing another movie, judging a television dance program, publishing poetry, managing a real estate venture, and running an animal welfare NGO that treats stray animals. Before working in Telugu films, she had a career as a Mumbai model, participated in the Femina Miss India contest, appeared in numerous commercials, and acted in the music video Breathless. She also served as a production designer for the 2003 movie Johnny and has two children, Akira and Aadya, with her former husband.

Context

Public figures in the entertainment and political spheres frequently face intense scrutiny and persistent online harassment regarding their personal lives long after relationships end.
