How to build a simple self-care routine without the pressure
Reported by Ishita Mukherjee (Staff Writer) · Hindustan Times - Health ·

Self-care often feels like extra work because people treat it like a productivity goal with strict rules. Mallika Timblo, founder of the women's wellness brand Terrapy, advises looking for small openings in your existing day instead of building a heavy schedule.
Daily Habits
Timblo suggests fitting small wellness acts around school runs, commutes, and early meetings. You can take a few unhurried sips of water before opening your inbox, step outside during a break, or let your evening shower mark the end of your workday. You can also attach a simple action to an existing habit, such as stretching your shoulders while the kettle boils, taking a short walk after lunch, or reading a few pages at night after placing your phone out of reach.
Realistic Goals
When time and energy are low, shrink your wellness tasks so you do not have to negotiate with yourself at the end of a long day. A ten-minute walk can become two minutes outdoors, journaling can be a single sentence, and dinner preparation can involve assembling a simple meal from what is already available. True self-care can also mean practical choices like declining an extra commitment, asking someone to share a household task, or letting a message wait until morning.
Context
Modern wellness culture frequently promotes complex daily routines that require significant time and discipline to maintain. Experts often advise flexible, low-pressure habits because rigid schedules are difficult to sustain when daily life becomes unpredictable.
