Bus ticket prices have gone up by 23% to 35% across the State, adding extra money trouble for people who are already dealing with high living costs.

BJP Reaction

The Bharatiya Janata Party strongly criticized the Congress-led State government on Thursday for the steep price revision. Speaking at a press conference in Yadgir, BJP district unit president Basavaraj Veebhutihalli called the hike unscientific and a heavy blow to ordinary citizens. He stated that the government earlier raised the prices of milk and curd, and has now made public transport more expensive.

Broader Allegations

Mr. Veebhutihalli also blamed the administration for widespread corruption, delays in welfare benefits, stopped development work, and overall bad management. He claimed that recent sting operations have brought State politics down to an unprecedented low. Other party members including Lalita Anpur, Rachanagouda Mudnal, Mahesh Reddy Mudnal, Devendra Nath Nad, Nagaratna Kuppi, Parashuram Kurkundi, Hanumanth Itagi, Veerupakshayya Swamy, and Chandru Kadechur attended the press meet.

Upcoming Protests

To fight these anti-people policies, the BJP announced plans to launch a comprehensive agitation across the district. The party also confirmed it will fully support a proposed Yadgir bandh called by local farmers unions, pro-Kannada groups, Dalit organizations, and other civil society groups.

Context

Public transport fare adjustments often spark political friction and protests from opposition parties in India, especially when living expenses are already a major public concern. Local shutdowns or bandhs called by civil society groups are a common way for citizens and opposition leaders to register their anger against government decisions.
