Karnataka High Court grants six‑day daytime bail to murder approver for father’s rites
Reported by Neha Sharma (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
Karnataka High Court has ordered six days of day‑long temporary bail for Pradosh S. Rao, an accused‑turned‑approver in the Renukaswamy murder case linked to actor Darshan, so he can perform his father’s first death‑anniversary rituals. Justice Anant Ramanath Hegde ruled that Rao can leave prison each morning at about 8 a.m. from November 7 to November 12 and return by 6 p.m., escorted by City Armed Reserve (CAR) police. Darshan’s counsel opposed Rao’s request for a 20‑day bail but accepted the court’s limited six‑day arrangement to allow the traditional rites. The order also bars Rao from contacting any police officer, witnesses, their close relatives, or anyone connected to the case outside prison during this period. Rao must submit a list of family members and priests attending the ceremony to the trial court, prison authorities and CAR police. Earlier, the court had already granted temporary bail when Rao’s father died last year, noting that Rao is the only son. ## Restrictions The court’s conditions restrict Rao’s communication with anyone linked to the investigation, aiming to prevent interference with the ongoing trial. ## Context In India, courts may grant short‑term, daytime bail for humanitarian reasons such as family rituals, but they often impose strict monitoring and communication bans to safeguard the integrity of the case.
