The 12-Year Struggle
Brijbhushan, a disabled resident of Syodha village in Banda's Naraini tehsil, has spent nearly 12 years visiting government offices to get a ration card made. An accident left him without both legs, and he has faced severe financial hardship since becoming disabled around 2014. With no regular income or ability to work, he depends entirely on outside help and government aid to survive. Even though he submitted applications and documents starting around 2014, his ration card was never issued. He repeatedly visited block offices, district offices, and attended public grievance redressal days, but officials only offered verbal assurances each time.
Appeal at DM Office
Brijbhushan reached the District Magistrate's office with folded hands, stating that he is hungry and needs a ration card so he does not suffer from starvation. To make matters worse, his monthly government pension of one thousand rupees has also stopped arriving for the past eight to nine months, leaving him with no steady support. Upon hearing his plea, present officials scolded the supply department and ordered an immediate ration card to be made. City Magistrate Dinesh Chandra stated that the victim's application was taken and authorities were given strict orders to act quickly so the card is issued soon.
Context
Public grievance systems like tehsil diwas are designed to solve local administrative delays when routine department channels fail citizens. However, extreme cases of bureaucratic inertia often require direct intervention from senior district officials like the District Magistrate to break through red tape.
