Police in Andhra Pradesh arrested four men after a video of them attacking a 20-year-old with a beer bottle spread widely on social media. The incident happened near a pond in Palukurivaripalem village within the SPSR Nellore district on September 28, but came to light only a week later.
The Attack
The victim, Bellamkonda Ankaiah from Idimepalle village, was targeted by four local men named Seshu, Anvesh, Ravi, and Sampath. The attackers beat him, caused a bleeding injury to his nose, tried to strangle him, and attempted to stab him with a broken bottle. Another member of the group, Ravi, recorded the whole assault on his phone. The attack stemmed from an earlier argument after Sampath had previously attacked a relative of the victim during festival celebrations.
Police Action
Ankaiah initially stayed quiet out of fear and did not report the crime. His family discovered the video online on Monday, prompting him to file a formal complaint at the Venkatachala Satram police station that same morning. Circle Inspector Kothamalli Arun confirmed that investigators registered a case under strict charges, including attempt to murder and criminal intimidation, leading to the prompt arrest of all four suspects on Tuesday.
Context
Incidents captured on mobile phone cameras and shared online often serve as key evidence that prompts police action in cases where victims initially stay silent due to fear. Social media circulation frequently bridges the gap between unreported local crimes and formal legal intervention.
