Financial institutions across India are inviting students to tackle real-world challenges in artificial intelligence, fintech, cybersecurity, and digital pensions through major hackathons and ideathons.
SEBI and RBI Hackathons
SEBI held its Securities Market TechSprint with market infrastructure institutions to find tech talent for tasks like detecting deepfakes, turning rules into compliance, building multi-asset investor apps, and simplifying SME IPO paperwork. Meanwhile, the RBI HaRBInger challenge asked participants to work on tokenised KYC, offline CBDC, and building trust. The RBI winning prize is forty lakh rupees for each problem statement, while runners-up and all-women teams receive twenty lakh rupees, alongside a five lakh rupee stipend for shortlisted teams during the development phase.
CDSL, NISM and PFRDA Programmes
CDSL hosted its first Reimagine Ideathon during its annual symposium, letting students use gamification, design, and technology to improve how India learns about and grows through financial markets. The NISM Ideathon focused on cybersecurity and investor awareness, asking students to study real or fake cyber fraud incidents and build ways to warn investors. The Innovate4NPS programme invited students and startups to work on pension challenges like digital onboarding, forecasting, gamified awareness, and multilingual AI assistants, offering six months of mentorship for selected teams.
Context
Financial regulators and market institutions regularly launch these innovation platforms to tap into young tech talent for modernising the financial sector. Such programmes bridge the gap between academic learning and industry needs by giving students direct exposure to complex digital systems and regulatory issues.
