ACB uncovers multiple lapses at Korutla Transport Department office. The Telangana Anti‑Corruption Bureau’s Karimnagar range carried out an unannounced inspection on Tuesday, reviewing files, cash flows, challans and pending paperwork. Inspectors discovered that Transport Constable N. Girish Kumar was administering driving examinations and verifying vehicle registrations while the post of Motor Vehicle Inspector was vacant. The raid also exposed that staff were taking extra cash from citizens through intermediaries who enjoyed unrestricted entry to the office and negotiated directly with Regional Transport Authority officials to fast‑track applications. Records and registers were found to be incompletely maintained, and supervisors appeared absent from routine oversight. The driving test area lacked required signboards and the facility fell short of the standards prescribed by the state Transport Department. The absence of proper signposting also poses safety risks for candidates taking the road test. ACB officials highlighted these shortcomings as evidence of systemic neglect and possible misuse of authority. Authorities may now initiate disciplinary action against the constable and staff involved, and the Transport Department is expected to review its internal controls.
Context
Such irregularities reflect broader challenges in ensuring transparency within regional transport offices, where inadequate supervision can enable informal fee‑taking and substandard service delivery.
