Climate Action Plans
Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav has stated that there is no single plan that fits all countries when it comes to tackling climate change. Speaking at the Leaders' Plenary in Fiji, he said the world must give equal focus to adaptation, mitigation, and means of implementation before the upcoming COP31 summit in Türkiye.
India's Proposals
Mr. Yadav stressed that equity and the principle of Common but Differentiated Responsibilities and Respective Capabilities must be strictly followed. He noted that India understands the issues faced by Pacific Island nations due to its own long coastline and islands. India offered to share its expertise in coastal management and space-based Earth observation with partner countries.
Context
Pre-COP meetings are preparatory talks held ahead of the main United Nations climate change summits to help nations build consensus on key issues. These gatherings allow developing and vulnerable countries to voice their specific needs regarding climate finance and support before formal global negotiations begin.
