Indian Stock Markets Surge as Nifty and Sensex Post Massive Gains
Reported by Pooja Nair (Section Editor) · Livemint - Markets ·
Indian stock markets recorded a powerful rally on Thursday, extending their winning streak to a sixth straight session amid strong foreign buying and lower crude oil prices.
Market Gains
The Nifty 50 jumped 576 points, or 2.40 percent, to close at 24,536.60, marking its highest close in over two months. The Sensex soared 2,008.61 points, or 2.60 percent, to settle at 79,310.01. Bank Nifty surged 3.33 percent, while auto and cement indices gained more than 3 percent. Shriram Finance rose about 6 percent, and overall market breadth remained positive with 2,547 stocks advancing and 1,084 declining.
Driving Factors
Foreign investors bought 7,284 crore rupees worth of shares on Wednesday, bringing their four-day total purchases to about 20,834 crore rupees. Brent crude fell below 95 dollars per barrel, which is about 20 percent lower than the previous week's six-month high. The rupee also touched a two-week high while bond yields eased. MarketSmith India highlighted Sambhv Steel Tubes Limited at a current price of 168 rupees and Punjab National Bank at 126 rupees among its top stock recommendations.
Context
Stock market rallies of this scale are typically driven by a combination of positive global cues, falling commodity prices like crude oil, and heavy capital inflows from foreign institutional investors. Major benchmark indices like the Nifty and Sensex serve as key indicators of overall investor sentiment and the economic health of the country.
