The Indian men's hockey team won their third straight Asian Champions title by beating Japan 4-1 in the final at Mohali's Olympian Balbir Singh International Hockey Stadium on Thursday.

The Match

India secured the victory after winning all their games across Jalandhar and Mohali, adding this win to their previous titles. Japan took an early lead in the third minute when Kazumasa Matsumoto scored with a strong reverse hit against goalkeeper Suraj Karkera. India struggled against strong Japanese defending before Shilanand Lakra scored the equaliser in the 42nd minute following a penalty corner and a pass from Aditya Lalage. Japan protested that the pass was dangerously high, but the TV umpire upheld the on-field decision. India dominated the final quarter with goals from Dilpreet Singh in the 48th minute, Jugraj Singh from a penalty corner in the 53rd minute, and Vivek Sagar Prasad in the 54th minute. In the other match of the day, Malaysia defeated South Korea 5-2 to take third place.
