Jithu Madhavan directs Suriya in new Tamil film Scene

Director Jithu Madhavan makes his Tamil cinema debut with Scene, blending his trademark humour with a star vehicle for Suriya. Known for his Malayalam films Romancham and Aavesham, Madhavan treats serious themes like serial murders with campy absurdity and lighthearted fun. DSP Inbaraj, played by Suriya, frustrates his colleagues by arriving at the office in T-shirts and shorts with shaggy hair, refusing to read case files or even open doors for himself. However, Inba is hiding a vulnerable secret he wants to keep hidden so he can retire in peace. Naslen plays Eeswaran, a casual contract killer who helps people get rid of dead or alive bodies while nonchalantly sucking on lollipops. Nazriya Nazim plays Maya, a high-IQ martial arts fighter with her own hidden vulnerability whom Inba hires for housework. When Eeswaran accidentally exposes Inba's secret, the cop vows to hunt him down during the Diwali season.

Context

Tamil cinema often blends high-stakes crime narratives with comedic and mass commercial elements to appeal to broad festival audiences. The film balances its dark premise of serial murders with chaotic family dynamics and quirky character traits.
