SCR recorded a record single‑day ticket‑checking collection of ₹1.18 crore on Thursday, 5 Nov 2026, during a zone‑wide drive ahead of the Diwali and Chhath rush. The day‑long operation covered the Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Nanded divisions of South Central Railway (SCR) and targeted ticketless or irregular travel in passenger and express trains. Railway officials logged 11,150 cases of ticketless or improper travel and collected penalties from the offenders. SCR said the amount is the highest single‑day revenue since the zone was split in June 2026, far above the zone’s usual average of ₹33.44 lakh per day from about 4,373 cases. Secunderabad division contributed the most, generating ₹1.02 crore of the total. The campaign followed instructions from Principal Chief Commercial Manager Ity Pandey to ensure smooth festive travel and stop unauthorised coach occupancy. SCR officials also aimed to raise passenger awareness about travelling with valid tickets. A notable feature was the involvement of 117 women ticket‑checking staff working alongside male colleagues. SCR General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava praised the Commercial Department and the checking staff for achieving the milestone.
Context
The drive reflects SCR’s broader effort to curb revenue loss from ticket evasion, a common issue on Indian railways, especially during peak festive periods when crowding increases the temptation to travel without a ticket.
