Election Commission Gives Deleted Voters in Seven States a New Chance
Reported by Rohit Yadav (Staff Writer) · Indian Express - India ·
Voter Review
The Election Commission has given a fresh chance to voters who were marked absent, dead, or duplicate across seven states and union territories.
States Involved
The states and territories included in this special drive are Delhi, Maharashtra, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Telangana, and Nagaland.
Official Instructions
The poll panel has asked local officials to set up a monitoring system to make sure no valid voter loses the chance to be on the final electoral roll. At the same time, this system aims to stop duplicate entries from getting through.
Context
Electoral rolls are updated regularly by election authorities to keep voter lists accurate before major polls take place. Giving citizens a chance to verify and correct their entries helps prevent genuine voters from getting left out due to clerical errors.
