Cupid and Sterlite Tech Lead Nifty 500 Gainers Despite Volatile Samvat 2082
Reported by Manish Reddy (Senior Writer) · Livemint - Markets ·
Indian stock markets faced a tough Samvat 2082 as benchmark indices fell due to heavy foreign investor selling, global tensions, higher crude oil prices from the West Asia conflict, and rising US bond yields. The Sensex dropped 7.9% and the Nifty 50 fell 6.8% based on data up to November 4.
Top Performers
Even with the broader market correction, 10 stocks in the Nifty 500 index jumped more than 150%. Cupid led the entire market with a massive 570% return, while Sterlite Technologies came in second with a 556% gain. Sansera Engineering rose 193%, HFCL gained 187%, and Welspun Corp went up 179%. Aditya Infotech and Rubicon Research both delivered 177% returns, MTAR Technologies rose 175%, and Ather Energy along with Laurus Labs both gained 158%.
Market Factors
PL Capital called Samvat 2082 one of the most volatile years recently, noting that the Nifty tested the 22,300 support level twice in six months. The economy faced challenges from 13% deficient rainfall, high inflation, rising interest rates, and volatile crude prices. However, India stayed the fastest-growing large economy, backed by a growing domestic industrial base and focus on sectors like defence, semiconductors, data centres, and renewable energy. Kotak Neo added that Diwali 2026 marks a turning point as corrections create better entry points for quality stocks.
Context
Stock markets in India follow the Hindu calendar Samvat year, which usually starts around Diwali and marks the traditional start of the financial year for many trading communities. Periods of high volatility often see investors shifting focus away from broad market indices toward specific strong companies that can grow despite macroeconomic hurdles.
