Anthropic announced on Tuesday, October 6, that its Claude AI chatbot is now expanding into Google Workspace. Paid Claude plan users can now work with the AI directly inside Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides in a public beta release.
How It Works
Users can open a sidebar next to their Google file to access Claude without switching browser tabs. Claude can read the open file, check selected text or cells, and make direct changes. In Google Docs, the chatbot can fix sentences, restyle headings, generate summaries, and create tables. In Sheets, it can write formulas, build pivot tables and native charts, and add new tabs. In Slides, Claude builds new slides matching existing layouts and flags design issues like overlapping elements or hard-to-read text.
Modes And Access
Claude offers two editing modes for Google files. The default mode uses 'Ask before edits' where changes appear as approval cards requiring user permission. The 'Accept all edits' mode lets Claude apply changes without stopping. Users can also paste Google file links directly into their chat window to open them in a side pane, with access strictly following the user's existing Google sharing permissions.
Context
AI integration tools like this are becoming standard across office software suites to help users save time on routine administrative tasks. These features rely on secure cloud permissions and workspace connectors to link separate applications smoothly without manual data transfer.
