Jaguar Unveils New Type 01 Electric Grand Tourer with Over 1,000 Horsepower

Jaguar has officially revealed its new Type 01 electric grand tourer in New York, following up on the Type 00 concept shown in 2024.

Design And Layout

Built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture, the Type 01 measures over 5.2 metres long with a 3.2-metre wheelbase and a low 1,400mm roof height. The four-door luxury EV features 23-inch wheels, flush door handles, and a long bonnet with an upright nose. The front sports active cooling shutters and the brand's slimmest headlights yet alongside four-line DRLs, while a brass-coloured panel on the front fender highlights the space between the front axle and A-pillar. A notable feature is the lack of a rear windscreen, relying instead on a camera feed to a digital rear-view mirror. The rear features a horizontal strikethrough design that hides the tail-lamps when off, complemented by active cooling vanes and a three-stage deployable rear spoiler that help achieve a drag coefficient of 0.23.

Performance And Battery

Propulsion comes from a tri-motor setup with one motor at the front and two at the rear, delivering a combined peak output of 1,365 Nm and over 1,000 horsepower. According to Jaguar, this setup propels the car from 0 to 100 kph in 3.2 seconds, with an additional 100 to 180 kph sprint taking four seconds. The vehicle uses an 850V electrical architecture supporting 350 kW DC fast charging, allowing a 10 to 80 percent charge in about 22 minutes and adding roughly 321 km of range in 13 minutes. Power is stored in a split battery pack featuring 118 kWh of usable capacity across five modules, delivering a claimed WLTP range of up to 720 km. The chassis includes double-wishbone front suspension, air suspension, active dampers, torque vectoring, and rear-wheel steering that brings the turning circle down to about 11.5 metres. Drivers can choose from five modes: Jaguar, Dynamic, Efficient, Ice & Snow, and Curated.

Interior And Cabin

Inside, the cabin offers four individual seating spaces with brass-coloured door card panels featuring the traditional leaping Jaguar mascot. The front seats include heating, cooling, and massage functions. A single 24-inch screen handles both the instrument cluster and the central infotainment display, while climate controls are integrated into the touchscreen. The central spine houses storage spaces, and the split battery design helps create extra foot space for rear passengers.

Market Launch

Global deliveries are set to begin in international markets by mid-2027. India will receive the luxury EV a few months later at an expected price of around Rs 2 crore, ex-showroom.

Luxury automotive brands are shifting toward dedicated electric platforms to meet tightening emissions rules while preserving high-end performance and long-distance touring capabilities. The introduction of the Type 01 marks a fresh design direction for Jaguar as it repositions itself in the ultra-luxury EV segment globally and in India.
