Jaguar Unveils New Type 01 Electric Grand Tourer with Over 1,000 Horsepower

UPDATE - follow-up to Jaguar Type 01 image gallery: Jaguar has revealed its new Type 01 electric grand tourer in New York, built on the dedicated Jaguar Electric Architecture.

Design and Build

Measuring over 5.2 metres long with a 3.2-metre wheelbase and a low 1,400mm height, the four-door model features a long bonnet, slim headlights, active shutters, and a front 'strikethrough' design. It also includes 23-inch wheels, flush door handles, and a rear without a windscreen that relies on a camera feed. Brass-coloured panels and the leaping Jaguar mascot feature inside, alongside a 24-inch display, a separate climate touchscreen, and heated, cooled, and massaging front seats.

Performance and Battery

A tri-motor setup with one front and two rear motors delivers a combined output of 1,030hp and 1,365Nm, running from 0-100kph in 3.2 seconds. Power comes from a 120kWh battery pack with 118kWh usable capacity, split into five modules to aid foot space and a low profile. The car supports up to 350 kW DC fast charging through an 850V electrical architecture, adding about 321 km of range in 13 minutes and a claimed WLTP range of 720km.

Launch and Pricing

Deliveries start in international markets by mid-2027, followed by India a few months later at an expected price of around Rs 2 crore ex-showroom.

Context

Luxury carmakers are increasingly adopting dedicated electric vehicle platforms to package large battery packs while maintaining traditional grand tourer proportions. Fast-charging capabilities of over 300 kW are becoming standard for high-end electric models to reduce long-distance travel waiting times.
