Western Disturbance Brings Cloud Cover and Light Rain Threat to Kanpur

Confirmed by a second source: Amar Ujala
Bright sunshine and clear skies gave way to rising humidity across Kanpur on Wednesday morning, as a new western disturbance began affecting the region. Daytime temperatures are expected to drop by one to two degrees over the next 24 hours, though high moisture levels in the air will maintain sticky weather conditions.
Weather Systems
Dr. S.N. Sunil Pandey, a weather expert at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology, stated that a strong western disturbance is active over north India alongside a trough line. According to Amar Ujala, nodal and technical officer Ajay Mishra explained that moisture arriving from the Bay of Bengal and the Caspian Sea, combined with a cyclonic circulation over eastern Uttar Pradesh, is feeding moisture into the plains and the Kanpur division. This system stretches from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand down to the Gangetic plains.
Forecast and Alerts
Skies will see partial clouds and sunshine through the day, with light rain, thunder, lightning, and brief heavy showers possible in some areas over the next 24 to 48 hours. Amar Ujala notes that authorities have issued an alert for lightning and thunder across Kanpur Nagar, Kanpur Dehat, Lucknow, Hardoi, Farrukhabad, and Kannauj, with some places facing medium rain and potential hail warnings. CSA data from Tuesday showed a maximum temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, which was one degree below normal, and a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius, which sat 2.2 degrees above normal, alongside a maximum relative humidity of 95 percent.
Context
Western disturbances are weather systems originating from the Mediterranean region that bring sudden winter or transitional rain and snow to northwest India. Following the withdrawal of the monsoon, these systems often cause sharp shifts in temperature and humidity across the plains. Cooler northwesterly winds from the mountains typically follow once these systems pass, setting in early winter conditions.
