Kerala Chief Minister VD Satheesan has outlined his government's administrative vision, economic strategies, and welfare plans. The United Democratic Front coalition in Kerala includes 10 parties that function like a single unit. To address geographical disadvantages like high population density and strict forest and coastal regulations, the state is leveraging its coastline, two international sea ports, a container terminal, and 18 mini ports to transform into a port city.

Economy And Welfare

Kerala is facing a fiscal crisis with a debt exceeding five lakh crore rupees and committed expenditure consuming 80 per cent of revenue. Rather than increasing taxes, the administration stimulated the market by disbursing nearly 4,000 crore rupees in festival pensions and arrears during Onam, which helped increase wholesale and retail business. To support the growing senior citizen demographic, the state created a dedicated department and aims to integrate seniors with youngsters by pairing them as mentors for startups. Additionally, the government is expanding aviation infrastructure, establishing a global convention centre in Cochin, and supporting Kudumbashree women units.

Federalism And Protests

Addressing student agitations over unemployment and education system failures, the government appointed experts across 12 sectors to monitor job trends and restructure the curriculum, while also ordering the quashing of police FIRs filed during roadblocks. On federal relations, the Chief Minister noted that Kerala's tax devolution share fell across successive Finance Commissions, prompting coordination among southern states. While maintaining ideological opposition to the BJP and Sangh Parivar, the administration pursues cooperative federalism with the central government to secure project funding and grants.
