UPDATE - follow-up to India, EU conclude multi-billion Euro global innovation programme: India and the European Union have finished talks to join the Horizon Europe research programme, a Euro 93.5 billion project. The formal agreement is likely to be signed in January after both sides finish their required steps. Once signed, Indian researchers and groups can get direct funding from the programme. They can also lead joint projects under Pillar II of the scheme. This pillar focuses on big global challenges like health, space, climate, and digital technology. Exploratory talks for this partnership began in February, and formal talks started in July. This move is part of a five-year strategic plan between India and the EU. ## Context Horizon Europe is a major funding tool used by the European Union to support joint scientific research with countries outside the bloc. India joins a list of 23 other non-EU countries that already take part in the programme on equal terms through financial contributions.
