The Tamil Nadu Government has approved 198 crore rupees to pay an honorarium to officials and staff members who worked on the 2026 Assembly election across all 234 constituencies in the State.
Who Gets Paid
A Government Order issued by the Public (Elections) Department states that one month's basic pay, up to a maximum of 45,000 rupees, will be given to top roles including District Election Officers, Returning Officers, Assistant Returning Officers, and Corporation Commissioners. A similar payment with a maximum cap of 30,000 rupees goes to officers and staff in election wings, flying squads, surveillance teams, and accounting teams. Other staff categories will receive honorariums under various different slabs through their respective District Election Officers.
Context
Conducting a State-wide election requires massive administrative work involving thousands of government employees working long hours across multiple specialized teams. Governments routinely provide special financial compensation or honorariums to these workers following the completion of major electoral exercises.
