Driver Fatigue Leads to Bus Flip, Seven Injured Near Tirupati
Reported by Pooja Nair (Section Editor) · The Hindu - National ·

A private bus overturned on National Highway 140 near Ithepalle village, leaving at least seven passengers injured.
Accident Details
The Sri Naveen Travels bus was travelling from Bengaluru to Bhubaneshwar when it rolled over opposite a Bharat Petroleum bunk at about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026. Police say the driver fell asleep, hit the brakes suddenly and the vehicle slipped toward a nearby canal. Stagnant rainwater on the road made the canal edge unclear, contributing to the slip.
Medical Response
Seven people, including the driver, were taken to Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) Hospital in Tirupati for treatment. The remaining 34 passengers were transferred to another bus to continue to their destinations.
Context
Accidents caused by driver fatigue are common on long inter‑state routes, especially during early‑morning hours when visibility is low and roads may be wet from rain.
