Two workers died after an explosion and subsequent fire ripped through Oil India Limited's intermediate tank farm in Tengakhat, Dibrugarh district, on Friday, November 6, 2026. The blast occurred at about 9:05 a.m. when an indirect bath heater, which had been isolated for maintenance on November 4, ignited. Six employees were injured in the incident; one, 40‑year‑old Tapas Gogoi, who was employed by a Mumbai‑based private agency contracted by OIL, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital around 3 a.m. on Saturday, raising the death toll to two. The other fatality, Raju Dutta, died on the morning of the explosion from the impact. Five remaining injured workers are receiving treatment. Fire‑fighting teams and emergency services arrived quickly and had the blaze under control by 12:30 p.m. that same day. Oil India Limited has formed an internal inquiry committee to probe the cause, assess damage and recommend steps to avoid similar incidents.
