Family of Slain Punjab Activist Parvinder Singh Jhota Sets Sunday Cremation Following Post-Mortem
Reported by Kavya Rao (Senior Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
Medical experts completed the post-mortem examination of the deceased campaign leader Parvinder Singh Jhota at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh on Saturday, returning the mortal remains to his relatives.
Funeral Plans
The final rites are scheduled for Sunday afternoon at noon in his hometown of Mansa, according to religious figure Nihang Raja Raj Singh. Action committee representative Gopal Sidhu stated that the procession will depart from the Chandigarh hospital facility at five o'clock in the morning on Sunday.
Background
The medical procedure took place after the victim's relatives concluded a twenty-two-day sit-in protest. The deceased person's remains had stayed inside the Mansa Civil Hospital storage unit for more than three weeks following the fatal shooting incident on October 13 inside a crowded marketplace medical shop. Authorities previously moved the body to Chandigarh during the early hours of Friday after family members reached an agreement with state officials during a Wednesday discussion session involving Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan and Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian. As part of the breakthrough, authorities freed two jailed committee members, including Lakhvir Singh, also known as Lakha Sidhana, from Nabha district prison on Thursday evening.
Context
Public demonstrations often arise in various regions when families demand swift accountability and the arrest of suspects in violent crimes. State authorities frequently engage in formal talks with aggrieved relatives and local action committees to resolve prolonged standoffs and restore public order.
