NSUI Sends Knives to BJP Leader Narayanaswamy Home Over Remarks
Reported by Arjun Sethi (Fact-Checker) · The Hindu - National ·
The Karnataka unit of the National Students' Union of India sent knives and cutters to the residence of BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy through online delivery platforms on Saturday. Several delivery executives reached the home of the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council with packages that he had not ordered.
Protest Reasons
NSUI State president Kirthi Ganesh released a video confirming that the student group deliberately placed the orders to protest alleged remarks by Mr. Narayanaswamy. Mr. Ganesh said the BJP leader had allegedly stated that Congress leaders should be cut into pieces and thrown into the Arabian Sea.
Leader Reaction
In the video statement, Mr. Ganesh told the BJP leader to pick any item sent and try cutting even a single party worker into just one piece. He also asked Congress and NSUI workers across the State to send similar online orders to the residence and shared the address and phone number online.
Context
Online delivery services are sometimes used by political groups in India to stage unusual forms of protest and send symbolic items to opponents. Such protests often aim to draw media attention and highlight verbal attacks made by rival politicians during election seasons or political disputes.
