Reported by Ishita Mukherjee (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
Two men were arrested near Ghatkesar mandal after police intercepted a car carrying 60 kg of marijuana valued at approximately 30 lakh rupees on November 7. The Special Operations Team of LB Nagar Zone and Pocharam IT Corridor police jointly caught the suspects during vehicle checks near Annojiguda village.
Details of Arrest
The arrested individuals are 28-year-old Mohammed Amer from Bandlaguda and 35-year-old Mohd Imran Uddin from Chandrayangutta. Police stopped their Maruti Suzuki SX4 near a masala company on the village outskirts at around 11:30 a.m. and discovered 60 packets of the contraband hidden behind the rear seat. Investigators revealed that Amer has a past criminal record involving five NDPS cases and two preventive detention orders, while Imran Uddin has four prior cases including two NDPS matters.
Supply Chain
During interrogation, the suspects stated they bought the consignment from Purnachandra Mohapatra in Odisha and planned to deliver it to Yasmeen Chand Sayyed, also known as Chand Bhai, in Mumbai's Dharavi area. The drugs were bought at roughly 7,000 rupees per kg and were meant to be sold at about 15,000 rupees per kg. Police noted that the same supplier had given marijuana to the two men on two previous occasions, and both the supplier and the intended Mumbai receiver remain at large.
Context
Drug trafficking networks often rely on interstate transit routes connecting production states like Odisha to major metropolitan markets such as Mumbai, passing through transit hubs like Hyderabad. Law enforcement agencies frequently use targeted vehicle checks on city outskirts to intercept illegal consignments being moved across state borders.
