TDP wins majority of contested Kadapa ZPTC seats as YSRCP gets only two
Reported by Danish Ansari (Fact-Checker) · The Hindu - National ·
Telugu Desam Party (TDP) secured ten of the sixteen ZPTC seats contested in Kadapa district on Thursday, leaving the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) with only two victories. The district has thirty‑nine ZPTC seats in total; twenty‑three were declared won unanimously before polling began. The remaining sixteen were decided on Thursday, with TDP winning ten, Jana Sena Party (JSP) one, and YSRCP two, both in the Pulivendula Assembly constituency. Pulivendula’s four ZPTC seats saw TDP win the Lingala and Pulivendula mandals, while YSRCP captured Vempalli and Vemula mandals. Results for three other ZPTC seats were still pending at the time of reporting. In parallel, the district’s 407 MPTC seats saw 352 candidates elected unopposed, while polling took place for fifty‑five seats; results for twenty‑eight of these were yet to be announced. Counting that had started showed TDP candidates leading in most of the MPTC contests under way.
Context
ZPTC elections determine representatives for rural local bodies, influencing development projects at the mandal level. The outcome follows a recent poor showing for YSRCP in municipal elections, suggesting shifting voter sentiment in the region.
