Pawan Kalyan credits development drive for coalition sweep in AP village polls
Reported by Deepak Mishra (Copy Editor) · The Hindu - National ·
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan said the coalition’s landslide victory in Andhra Pradesh’s village council elections was largely driven by government development and welfare programmes. He pointed to strong voter confidence in the TDP‑JSP‑BJP alliance as evident from the counting trends and thanked the electorate for what he called a clear mandate. Kalyan highlighted that the administration has been building roads, schools and health centres in rural districts. He added that safe drinking water has been provided under the national water supply scheme. He also noted that the state has secured central funds through the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment programme to boost local infrastructure. ## Context The rural local body elections decide control of thousands of gram panchayats, which manage basic services like water, roads and schools. Winning these bodies helps the ruling alliance implement its state‑level projects more easily. Schemes such as the national water supply mission and the capital‑investment assistance are common tools used by state governments to improve village amenities and gain electoral support.
