Weather Change
Rain, thunderstorms and strong winds are expected across large parts of Uttar Pradesh over the coming days due to an active western disturbance. Tuesday recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22.5 degrees Celsius in Lucknow.
Wind and Rain Forecast
Rain showers accompanied by thunder and lightning are predicted across the state until October 10, with western districts expecting showers by October 9 and eastern regions following by October 10. Over the past 24 hours, winds swept through eastern parts at speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, while heavy rain fell in pockets of Ambedkar Nagar and Jaunpur. According to ABP News, winds in Varanasi reached a top speed of 80 kilometres per hour.
Temperature Drop
Gusty winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour will accompany the upcoming rain, pushing maximum temperatures down by two to three degrees Celsius, while ABP News notes the drop could reach three to five degrees over the next three days. Hailstorms are also possible in isolated places, and flood-affected farmers will receive compensation after October 12 based on digital crop surveys.
Context
Western disturbances are weather systems originating from the Mediterranean region that bring sudden rain and winter-setting cold to northern India during the transition months. Such shifts frequently cause sharp temperature drops and strong winds across the Indo-Gangetic plains as autumn progresses toward winter.
