Yogesh Singh has been reappointed as Vice‑Chancellor of the University of Delhi for a second five‑year term, making him the first Indian to hold the post twice. The appointment takes effect on 8 October 2026, following a July notification from the Union Ministry of Education after President Droupadi Murmu approved the reappointment. Singh’s first term began in 2021 as the university’s 23rd Vice‑Chancellor and is set to end on 7 October 2026. A 2023 amendment to the university’s statutes now allows a Vice‑Chancellor to be reappointed for a second five‑year stint; the amendment was first approved by the Executive Council in 2014 and received the President’s assent in 2023. Before Singh, only Maurice Gwyer served two terms at Delhi University, from 1938 to 1950. Singh previously led Delhi Technological University (2016‑2021), directed Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology (2014‑2016) and served as Vice‑Chancellor of Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (2011‑2014). During his first DU tenure he oversaw the rollout of the Four‑Year Undergraduate Programme and introduced admissions through the Common University Entrance Test, both key components of the National Education Policy 2020. Singh did not comment on his priorities for the new term.## Context This reappointment reflects a shift toward longer leadership continuity at Delhi University, aligning the institution’s governance with recent policy changes that aim to deepen reforms introduced under the NEP 2020.
