Veteran Indian actor Nana Patekar has died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Goa on Thursday morning. His son Malhar confirmed the death to BBC Marathi. Dr. Shekhar Salkar, Chief of the Oncology Department at Manipal Hospital, stated that the actor was brought to the hospital in an unresponsive state and could not be revived despite prolonged resuscitation efforts. According to Dr. Salkar, Patekar messaged a friend at around 2:30 AM to say he was not feeling well, but the friend did not see it immediately at night. The friend later called and arrived at the residence at about 4:00 AM, finding the actor sweating and deteriorating. People at the home began primary measures and sent his caretaker to seek help. An emergency response team arrived and performed cardiac massage before shifting him to Manipal Hospital at around 4:20 or 4:30 AM. Doctors administered CPR for nearly 45 minutes to an hour, but he was declared dead by 5:30 AM. A police case was filed as it is a medico-legal case, and the body was taken to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination. Family members were not present at the time, with only friends and a caretaker by his side. Patekar won three National Film Awards for his work in films like Parinda, Krantiveer, and Agni Sakshi, and began his career with Gaman in 1978. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Akshay Kumar, and Sunny Deol led public tributes following the news. His recent releases included Subedaar and O'Romeo in early 2026.
Context
Sudden cardiac arrests require immediate medical intervention within minutes to restore heart rhythm, making early CPR and hospital access critical. Medico-legal cases in sudden deaths standardly involve mandatory post-mortem examinations to legally document the exact cause. Veteran performers often leave behind extensive filmographies spanning decades of cultural impact across regional and national cinema.
