The central government has increased the security cover for Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar following strong protests. Additional forces have been deployed at his residences and the Election Commission headquarters. The decision comes after protesters reached his family home in Agra and his residence in Delhi's New Moti Bagh residential colony. According to a senior police official quoted by Hindustan Times, authorities reviewed the threats before deciding to step up protection. Police vans and commandos now patrol the colony around the clock, and visitors must show identity cards to enter.

Security has also been tightened by the CISF inside the Election Commission headquarters, Nirvachan Sadan, located on Ashoka Road in Delhi. Rapid Action Force, CRPF, and Delhi police personnel have been deployed outside the office over the past few days due to daily protests. Gyanesh Kumar already holds Z-plus protection, which is the highest security category given to civilians in India. This level involves over 55 security personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces and Delhi Police, along with 24-hour personal security officers.

Context

Z-plus security is provided to top government officials and individuals facing high-level security threats in India. Protest demonstrations outside official buildings and residences often lead authorities to review and upgrade security arrangements.
