Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at 75 following a cardiac arrest at his Goa home on October 8. He was found unconscious in Dona Paula, rushed to Manipal Hospital where doctors performed chest compressions for 45 minutes before he was declared dead, and his son Malhar confirmed the loss to media. Director Rohit Shetty, who worked with Patekar on the 2017 comedy Golmaal Again, posted a tribute on Instagram, sharing a photo and recalling their informal late‑night phone calls that started with a casual greeting and ended with Patekar’s unmistakable voice. Shetty said Patekar was both his harshest critic and biggest supporter, openly commenting on his films with blunt opinions such as praising a scene as good, calling another bad, and reminding him that he was already a star without needing more. The director highlighted that when he asked about a fee for the cameo, Patekar laughed, refused any payment and offered the number of an orphanage, urging Shetty to donate instead. In Golmaal Again, Patekar appeared briefly as himself, and his distinctive voice was used as a running gag whenever a character was possessed. ## Context In Bollywood, senior actors often make cameo appearances and are revered for mentoring younger filmmakers, while charitable gestures like donating fees to orphanages are viewed as marks of humility and respect.
