Gold prices in Kolkata saw a slight increase on the morning of October 8, 2026, even as silver prices recorded a notable fall according to the Swarna Shilpa Bachao Committee (SSBC).
Gold And Silver Rates
According to SSBC data published at 10:20 am, the selling price for 22-karat hallmark gold went up by 5 rupees per gram compared to the previous day, reaching 14,005 rupees per gram. The buying price for 22-karat gold rose by 6 rupees to 13,414 rupees per gram. Fine gold with 995 purity reached 14,741 rupees per gram, making 10 grams of 24-karat gold cost about 1,47,410 rupees. Meanwhile, 18-karat gold increased by 5 rupees to 11,500 rupees per gram. In contrast, 1 kilo of 999 purity silver bars dropped by 1,810 rupees to stand at 2,22,743 rupees compared to the previous day's 2,24,553 rupees.
Making Charges And Taxes
These prices released by SSBC do not include the 3 percent Goods and Services Tax. Buyers need to pay this tax along with making charges at individual shops, meaning final store prices can vary. Different market agencies also use separate calculation methods which can cause slight differences in published gold rates on the same day.
Context
Precious metal prices in India depend on various factors including international market rates, foreign exchange values, and local demand trends. Retail jewellery purchases commonly involve extra making charges and taxes over the base bullion rates.
