Ranbir Kapoor's film Ramayan Part-1 released worldwide on November 5 with a massive budget of around 2,000 crore rupees for the first part alone. On its opening day, the film earned 62.47 crore rupees in India, while its worldwide collection reached 121.62 crore rupees. By the second day, the global collection crossed 231.63 crore rupees, falling short of initial estimates by about 25 crore rupees. Trade experts Sumit Kadel and Rohit Jaiswal have raised doubts about whether the film can recover its huge budget, pointing out that despite starring Yash, Ranbir Kapoor, and Sunny Deol, the box office numbers are weak for a pre-diwali release.
Expert Analysis
Trade analysts point out that the film received mixed reviews from audiences, with many finding it average rather than exceptional. To be a hit, experts state that the film needs a domestic collection of 900 to 1,000 crore rupees in Hindi and a worldwide total of 2,500 crore rupees. Rohit Jaiswal explains that a producer expects standard theatrical value to cover about 60 percent of the budget, meaning the film needs roughly 1,100 crore rupees in India after accounting for exhibitor shares. The pre-diwali release window is considered a dull period, which heavily impacted the initial earnings despite extensive promotions and early advance booking.
Comparison And Context
Comparisons with the film Dhurandhar - The Revenge, which was made on a modest budget of 250 crore rupees, show Ramayan trailing behind. Dhurandhar earned over 170 crore rupees worldwide on its opening day on March 19, 2026, and went on to gross a total of 1,800 crore rupees globally, a milestone experts now doubt Ramayan can reach.
Context
Pre-diwali release windows are historically known for lower theater footfall as audiences often wait for festival celebrations to conclude before visiting cinemas. High-budget Indian cinema projects rely heavily on a combination of theatrical ticket sales, satellite distribution, music rights, and digital streaming deals to balance their massive production costs.
