England manager Thomas Tuchel has warned Cole Palmer that form alone will not guarantee a spot in the national team, stressing that missing international camps due to injury has hurt his chances. Tuchel named his 25-man squad on Friday ahead of upcoming fixtures against Croatia at Wembley on Thursday and Spain in Madrid on Sunday.

Squad Changes

Several players are missing from the squad. Palmer, Jordan Henderson, Dean Henderson, Dan Burn, Kobbie Mainoo, Noni Madueke, Phil Foden and Nico O'Reilly were left out, while Tino Livramento, Trevoh Chalobah, Alex Scott, Reece James, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka are sidelined with injuries. Meanwhile, Declan Rice, Djed Spence and Ben White return to the squad after recovering from fitness issues, and Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly is suspended for the first match.

New Faces

Jobe Bellingham and Josh King have received their first senior call-ups. Tuchel consulted England Under-21 manager Lee Carsley before selecting them, noting that Jobe brings physical strength and defensive qualities as a central midfielder compared to his brother Jude. If Jobe plays in the upcoming matches, the pair will become the 22nd set of brothers to represent England, and the first to play together since Gary and Phil Neville 19 years ago. King earned praise for his attacking flexibility and high energy in training. Liverpool forward Rio Ngumoha also earned a mention from Tuchel as an electric option to challenge for the right-wing spot in Saka's absence.

Context

International football squads are constantly evolving as managers balance experienced core players with rising young talent from youth ranks. Regular attendance at training camps remains a key requirement for national team bosses seeking to build team unity and tactical consistency between major tournaments.
