Four police personnel, including a Station House Officer, sustained minor injuries after a bus hit their vehicle on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway near Chanderkote in Ramban district on Sunday. The accident took place shortly after the police vehicle joined the escort team of BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Sunil Sharma. Mr. Sharma's convoy had just entered the Chanderkote area while travelling from Srinagar to Jammu when the bus crashed into the police vehicle at a crossing and caused it to overturn. The injured officers, including SHO Inspector Vicky Thapa, were rushed to the District Hospital Ramban for medical treatment. Mr. Sharma stopped his own convoy following the crash to help with the rescue operations, later noting that the police vehicle suffered heavy damage while confirming all personnel were safe. Medical Superintendent Dr. Mohammad Rafi Wani stated that the condition of all four injured officers remained stable. They received first aid and necessary scans before being discharged from the hospital.

Context

Highways with heavy traffic and frequent crossings often see high-speed vehicle movements that demand strict caution from drivers. Convoy escorts require precise coordination to navigate busy intersections safely without risking collisions with other traffic.
