Public notice in Srinagar seeks leads on four wanted terrorists
Reported by Rohit Yadav (Staff Writer) · The Hindu - National ·
A flex banner appeared on Sunday morning along the perimeter of Pratap Park in Srinagar's commercial hub, Lal Chowk, asking the public for clues about four wanted terrorists. Security teams are hunting these individuals in connection with a police officer's murder in Anantnag that took place this July.
Wanted Suspects
The notice names four specific men linked to the ongoing manhunt. One suspect is Mohammad Lateef Bhat, who hails from Kulgam district and remains active inside the Kashmir Valley. The other three individuals listed on the banner are Bilal Ahmad Mir, Mohammad Umar Mir, and Abid Qayoom Lone, all of whom hail from Baramulla district. Officials note that these three men are currently believed to be operating from across the border in Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
Rewards and Privacy
The display board promises a substantial cash reward for helpful tips regarding the presence or movement of the suspects. It also assures people who come forward that their personal identity will remain completely secret.
Context
Public reward posters and tip-line notices are common tools used by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir to tap into local intelligence for anti-terror operations. Lal Chowk is a high-visibility central square in Srinagar, making it a prominent spot for public announcements.
