Deepak Baliyan, national spokesperson of the Cockroach Janta Party, was allegedly picked up and brutally assaulted by Alwar police on Thursday ahead of the party’s October 10 protest in New Delhi. Police officers from Kathumar police station visited his home late Thursday, left when he began recording, then returned and took him away. Baliyan, who is recovering from a leg fracture, was dragged; his brother was badly beaten and his father says the police smashed his leg. The CJP says more than 10,000 people have been detained nationwide ahead of a planned march to Jantar Mantar demanding the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The detainees include CJP activists and members of student, farmer and Dalit groups as well as other parties. CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke alleged the police also cracked open Baliyan’s brother’s head. A video shows plain‑clothes men alighting from a police jeep and approaching Baliyan. Co‑convenor Saurav Das said Baliyan was taken to an unknown location and warned that the BJP is acting like a mafia. PUCL quoted family members that two police jeeps arrived around 10 pm, forced Baliyan’s removal, beat his brother and pushed his mother. RLP MP Hanuman Beniwal demanded immediate release, calling the pre‑emptive custody an insult to democracy. Alwar Superintendent of Police Sudheer Choudhary, Kathumar Circle Officer Jogendra Singh and Station House Officer Chander Shekhar Sharma have not responded to requests for comment. The party’s official X handle questioned, “Are we heading towards another Emergency?”
Context
The CJP is a protest‑focused party seeking to oust the chief election commissioner, and police raids on activists before large rallies have become a point of tension between opposition groups and state authorities.
