Actor Tanushree Dutta has drawn sharp condemnation from the All Indian Cine Workers Association after referring to the late veteran actor Nana Patekar as "evil dead" following his passing. Nana Patekar died on Thursday, October 8, at his home in Goa after suffering a cardiac arrest. Goa Police registered an Unnatural Death case under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita after doctors spent forty-five minutes trying to revive him before pronouncing him dead at around 5:10 am.

Reactions and Controversy

Following the news, Tanushree posted videos on social media mentioning that she was heading to Lucknow for a work event while discussing the emotional turmoil she endured after accusing the late actor of sexual harassment during a 2008 film shoot. She stated that her car brakes were cut, she suffered an accident, and experienced food poisoning in the years following her #MeToo disclosure. AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta slammed her remarks as cheap publicity, calling her statement deeply objectionable, shameful, and contrary to basic humanity.

Context

Tanushree Dutta's 2018 public accusation against Nana Patekar was a pivotal moment that helped spark the broader #MeToo movement across the Indian entertainment industry. Such high-profile celebrity deaths often bring past controversies back into the public eye, revealing deep divisions within the film community regarding personal accountability and traditional norms of mourning.
