Volkswagen has unveiled the ID. Tiguan, an electric SUV that replaces the ID. 4 and ID. 5 models and is slated to launch globally in 2027 while selling alongside its fuel-powered counterpart. Underpinned by the MEB+ platform, the vehicle adopts Volkswagen's 'Pure Positive' design language to deliver a traditional SUV shape instead of a crossover look. The exterior features LED headlamps, connected LED DRLs, an illuminated logo, and conventional mechanical door handles added at customer request. It also includes aero-optimised alloy wheels, wraparound LED tail-lamps, a dual-tone bumper with a diffuser effect, up to 534 litres of boot space, and a 32-litre front storage compartment.

Interior And Features

Inside, the cabin features an all-black theme with silver accents and a triple-screen dashboard layout that includes a 15-inch infotainment system, a 10-inch digital driver's display, and a 12-inch passenger screen supporting apps like YouTube and Spotify. Volkswagen has brought back physical buttons for climate control and other functions, alongside a two-spoke steering wheel and digital dials that can mimic older models like the Mk1 Golf or Beetle. The car will be sold in four trim levels: Trend, Life, Style, and R-Line. Additional features include an ADAS suite, powered and ventilated front seats with memory and massage functions, a Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, and vehicle-to-load functionality.

Powertrains And Performance

Buyers can choose between 58kWh and 77kWh battery packs. The 58kWh battery pairs with a rear-mounted motor producing 190hp, while the 78kWh battery offers rear-wheel drive with 286hp and all-wheel drive with 299hp. Volkswagen forecasts a driving range of up to 600km on the WLTP cycle and a towing capacity of up to 2 tonnes. The vehicle also benefits from new bushings, valved dampers to improve ride comfort, and a starting price expected around 36,000 pounds in the UK where early deliveries begin early next year.

Context

Automakers frequently update their electric vehicle lineups to blend modern battery technology with traditional styling cues that familiar car buyers prefer. Bringing back physical buttons and conventional door handles reflects a broader industry trend of responding to driver feedback regarding touch-screen heavy interiors. This model bridges the gap between older combustion engine heritage and the brand's growing electric future.
