JAS Motorsport has revealed the Tensei, a limited-edition sports car that uses the first-generation Honda NSX as its base and reimagines it with modern materials and technologies. Only 35 units of the Tensei will be built, each priced at 880,000 euros, which equals about 9.55 crore rupees, before options.
Performance And Engine
The Tensei uses a 3.5-litre naturally aspirated V6 engine re-engineered in partnership with British specialist Judd Power. It delivers 420 horsepower and 350 Newton-metres of torque, paired with a six-speed manual gearbox. This output is 146 horsepower higher than the original 3.0-litre first-gen NSX and 126 horsepower higher than the later 3.2-litre version. The engine also features an 8,500 rpm redline, which is higher than the 8,000 rpm limit of the original models.
Design And Interior
The car features a carbon fibre body designed by Pininfarina while retaining core styling cues like the long stance, pop-up headlights, and side intakes. Modern updates include larger 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels, LED lighting, and a rear diffuser. Inside, it keeps the F16-inspired layout but adds a digital instrument cluster, a flat-bottom steering wheel, a titanium gear knob, and an electronic parking brake.
Context
The original Honda NSX debuted in 1989 and gained global fame for its aluminium spaceframe chassis and tuning input from Formula One champions Ayrton Senna and Satoru Nakajima. Restomods like the Tensei reflect a growing trend among motorsport firms to combine classic vintage chassis designs with modern engineering and high-end materials.
