Electric two-wheeler sales crossed two lakh units in September 2026, reaching a total of 2,07,314 units sold.

Sales Growth and Market Share

This total marks an increase of 88.67 percent compared to the same month last year. Sales also grew 13.16 percent from the 1,83,204 units sold in August 2026. The market share for electric two-wheelers reached 11.6 percent in September, up from 10.7 percent in August and higher than the 8.2 percent share recorded in September 2025.

Company Performance

Bajaj Auto sold 48,429 units of its Chetak electric scooter during the month. Bajaj recorded a year-on-year growth of 138.87 percent compared to 20,274 units in September 2025, while month-on-month sales rose 17.79 percent from 41,114 units in August. Together, TVS Motor and Bajaj Auto made up 49.43 percent of the market with combined sales of nearly one lakh units. Other manufacturers collectively added 11,582 units to the total retail sales, which is a 39.44 percent yearly increase though a slight 1.58 percent drop from August.

Context

The steady rise in electric vehicle sales points to higher buyer preference for battery-powered options over standard petrol models. Lower running costs and other day-to-day benefits continue to drive this shift in the domestic two-wheeler market.
