Director and choreographer Farah Khan says the era of superstars has ended because new actors lack confidence and interfere in creative decisions. Speaking on the show Double Date hosted by Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi, she stated that newcomers try to micro-manage casting, music, and song choreography out of self-doubt.

Actor Comparisons

Farah contrasted this behavior with established stars like Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, who place complete trust in their directors. She recalled that Shah Rukh never questioned her casting choices, accepting Sushmita Sen for Main Hoon Na and newcomer Deepika Padukone for Om Shanti Om without hesitation. She added that Salman never demands days off or refuses to shoot on Sundays. According to the 61-year-old director, veterans like Shah Rukh, Salman, Amitabh Bachchan, and Akshay Kumar focus on solid films and maintain their work ethic, whereas younger actors chase magazine covers and award shows.

Context

Farah Khan made her directorial debut with the 2004 action drama Main Hoon Na and last directed the 2010 comedy Tees Maar Khan. She recently co-hosted the Netflix reality series Lock Upp: Sach Ya Saza with Riteish Deshmukh and features her cook Dilip in popular YouTube vlogs starting from April 2024.
