The scheme covers district election officers, constituency election officers, assistant election officers, district revenue officers, personal assistants to district administrators and special magistrates. Each will receive whichever is lower – a full month’s basic pay or a maximum of Rs 45,000. Other staff in the district election office, revenue divisions, municipal bodies, air‑force/video‑monitoring teams, accounts and conduct committees can get up to Rs 30,000. IT personnel and certain lower‑level officials such as village assistants are entitled to a maximum of Rs 20,000. The second source adds that the amount will be deposited directly into bank accounts, with a minimum of Rs 7,500 and a maximum of Rs 45,000, calculated on the basis of the basic salary as of 01‑05‑2026.
Reaction
Election workers across the state said the announcement made them feel recognised for the extra duties they performed during voting, voter‑list maintenance, polling‑station monitoring and vote counting. Officials described the payment as a proper acknowledgement of their contribution to the democratic process.
Context
Providing special remuneration after elections is a common practice in Indian states to compensate civil servants for overtime and additional responsibilities. The Tamil Nadu allocation follows this tradition, aiming to encourage diligent work in future polls.
