The Cockroach Janta Party is openly criticising the welfare and governance measures of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam government in Tamil Nadu, shaping a contest between two groups backed by young voters. CJP founder Abhijit Dipke spoke at a protest in Bengaluru on 8 October 2026, alleging that the Special Intensive Revision was used to rig votes and bring down governments led by Pinarayi Vijayan in Kerala and MK Stalin in Tamil Nadu, leading to actor-politician Vijay becoming chief minister. Although not a registered political party, the CJP shares some political ground with the opposition Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and uses this criticism to build an independent presence in the state.
Criticism and Reactions
CJP leaders have questioned the pace and originality of the Vijay administration's promises, such as employment guarantees, education reforms, and schemes like subsidised LPG cylinders and loan relief, calling them cosmetic rebrandings on social media. They also pointed to a now-withdrawn August directive by the Directorate of Collegiate Education that asked college principals to stop students from joining protests organised by Left groups and the CJP. CJP national organisation co-in-charge Deepak Baliyan stated that while they hope for youth-focused progress, they will criticise populist policies that restrict youth rights. Meanwhile, TVK national spokesperson Felix Gerald stated that his party will not respond to these comments for now.
Context
Tamil Nadu politics has historically relied on strong regional movements and student activism, creating a unique space for youth-centric political debates. The emergence of new platforms attempting to capture Gen Z voter bases reflects shifting political dynamics in southern states.
