Gold rose to a one‑week high on Friday, with spot prices up 1.5% to $4,194.36 an ounce, putting the metal on track for a weekly gain of about 1.3%.

Market Move

Gold’s bounce follows a two‑month low on Wednesday when a stronger dollar and rising US Treasury yields pushed the metal down. US gold futures for December delivery also climbed, gaining 1.4% to close at $4,216.3. Stone X market analyst Rhona O'Connell said bargain hunting at the lows created a floor around the $4,000 level.

Fed Outlook

St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem warned another rate hike may be needed to bring inflation back to the 2% goal. CME’s FedWatch tool shows a 19% chance of a hike in October and an 84% probability of at least one 25‑basis‑point increase by December. Bybit chief market analyst Han Tan noted that the upcoming CPI release could trigger the next big move in gold, while persistent inflation might test the $4,000 support again.

Other Metals

Spot silver rose 2.4% to $60.77 per ounce. Platinum jumped 3.1% to $1,685.64 and palladium gained 2.1% to $1,146.39, though both precious metals are set for weekly losses. Demand in India was sluggish as prices rebounded, and Chinese buying stayed muted during the holiday‑shortened session.

Context

Gold often falls out of favor when interest‑bearing assets become more attractive, and traders watch Fed policy and inflation data closely because they shape the metal’s safe‑haven appeal.
