Police stopped and took into custody Supreme Court lawyers marching from the court to Jantar Mantar in Delhi, where they intended to protest in support of the BJP's call for Chief Justice Gyanesh Kumar to resign. The protest call has raised tension across the capital. While police have been arresting demonstrators heading to the Jantar Mantar site, they also intercepted the lawyers' rally and placed them under control. The lawyers' demonstration was meant to back the BJP demand for the chief justice’s resignation. Police units have been detaining participants at several checkpoints as they approach the monument, with several arrests reported though exact numbers were not given. The lawyers, members of the Supreme Court Bar Association, were travelling together in a convoy when they were stopped, and their detention was carried out without allowing them to reach the rally point. The BJP had earlier urged supporters to gather at Jantar Mantar to voice the demand for the chief justice’s resignation. The city administration has warned that any attempt to breach the law will be dealt with strictly. ## Context Jantar Mantar is a historic protest venue in Delhi where large political gatherings are often met with strong police presence to maintain order.
