Manav Suthar takes charge of Rajasthan in red-ball cricket for the first time, starting his new role as team captain in their Ranji Trophy opening match against Tamil Nadu in Jaipur. The 24-year-old left-arm spinner already led the state side in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. Over the past three months, he picked up five wickets or more on three distinct surfaces including a flat pitch in Mullanpur, a helpful track in Galle, and a sporting strip in Chelmsford. His recent achievements include a strong Test debut and a title-winning County Championship run with Warwickshire. Rajasthan bowling coach Anup Dave points out that the player possesses a sharp mind and reads batters quickly. His main weapon is bowling conventional spin and arm balls with drift from the exact same spot, while using different balls like the domestic SG, Sri Lanka's Kookaburra, and England's Dukes without trouble. Dave adds that the national team views him as a red-ball prospect because he can easily bowl forty overs in a day. Suthar works under instructions from India's spin-bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule, while state coaches avoid changing his natural game.

The Ranji Trophy serves as India's premier domestic first-class cricket competition, acting as the primary testing ground for players aiming to break into the national Test team. Strong performances in these matches help athletes prepare for upcoming overseas tours, such as the national team's scheduled series in New Zealand.
